About Me

Hello!
Welcome to The People Before Us genealogy blog!
I started this blog in order to organize and share my family history with other family members, potential family members and anyone interested in starting to record their own family's ancestry.  And if I happen to find someone who can offer a little help with my family's brick wall, that's great too!

I have been an avid blogger for about 9 years starting with my blog Deltaville Vignettes which showcases photos, stories, history and other tidbits from my family's property in the small Chesapeake Bay town of Deltaville, VA.  I continue to work on other personal blogs showcasing my hiking and backpacking adventures in Hiking 40 for my 40th , paranormal themed topics at Gettysburg Ghosts and an eclectic mix of topics that include homesteading topics and renovating a 120+ year old house at Historical Homegirl.

My passing interest in genealogy and family ancestry grew into an obsession after learning my family is potentially related to Plantagenet Kings through a connection with the Reade family of colonial Yorktown.  While I have been unable to prove this rumor, the search ignited a passion and fed my love of solving mysteries.  I'm not doing all this work and research alone, thankfully.  My father has amassed a large quantity of records over the years through his genealogy research, and my cousin and aunt have begun the hunt along with me (really, who doesn't want to prove they could be descended from the man King Arthur was based on).  So far our journey has solved some mysteries, uncovered some mysteries and discovered some ghost stories.

So sit back, follow the blog and enjoy some-hopefully- entertaining family history and stories and also learn how to research your own family along with us!
